I've spent the last couple of months working with a talented team to get a new service off the ground. Called Doing Good For Nothing, we aim to provide targeted capacity building services to a local not-for-profit or social enterprise. We're going to find an organization that needs help, then work on their issue during an event in November 2014. All for free!
Our aim is two-fold. First, we want to help a local organization get over a hurdle. Maybe it's the need to revamp their website, design a better way to get fresh people on their board, or even a database to help link suppliers with customers. It's probably something they have shelved as 'too hard' because of lack of capacity or time. DGFN provides the environment to roll up sleeves and get the issue dealt with.
Second, we're keen to do something that is action focused. All of us have been to events that are mostly talk. Those are great, but sometimes I leave feeling like I would have rather DONE something.
We're getting excellent support from NetSquared Victoria and others in the Victoria community. If you're an organization with an issue, check out the DGFN website www.dgfnvictoria.ca or send an email to team@victoria.ca to learn more.
